Evaluación de la metodología de ensayo acelerado de barras de mortero ASTM C 1260 para detectar agregados potencialmente reactivos y las medidas de mitigación de la reacción álcali-sílice ASTM C 1567

Resumen

La reacción álcali-sílice se define como un fenómeno producido por los álcalis (sodio o potasio) del cemento, los cuales reaccionan con la sílice presente en ciertos agregados, formando un gel que en condiciones de humedad genera microfisuras y esfuerzos internos. En el presente artículo se exponen los resultados de un proyecto de investigación en el que se evaluó la potencial reactividad de tres agregados del territorio colombiano en combinación con dos tipos de cementos y dos relaciones agua-cemento, con el ensayo ASTM C 1260 de barras de mortero. De las muestras reactivas, se evaluó la efectividad de materiales cementantes para mitigar la reacción álcali-sílice, en el ensayo ASTM C 1567 de barras de mortero. Finalmente se analizó el comportamiento mecánico de muestras de mortero, como la resistencia a compresión, flexión y módulo de elasticidad, respecto a probetas con agregados reactivos
y no reactivos, concluyendo que la reacción álcali sílice-aumenta a medida que aumenta la relación agregado-cemento y ésta depende de la composición mineralógica de cada agregado. Por otro lado, los materiales mitigantes utilizados, como la ceniza volante F, microsílice y metacaolín, son competentes para reducir la reacción álcali-sílice en cierta proporción de remplazo; las propiedades mecánicas más afectadas por la reacción álcali-sílice son el módulo
elástico y la resistencia a flexión, y la resistencia a compresión se ve afectada en menor porcentaje a lo largo del tiempo.
